In Devonport, on Tasmania's north-west coast the Court Mandated Diversion programme has been giving drug addicts a second chance since 2007.
It's helping drug addicted offenders sober up, stay drug free and avoid prison.
Like recovering drug addict Steven* who is looking forward to a holiday with his kids. That couldn't have been possible if the Devonport dad was put behind bars.
You think you've got control and it's all good, everything's sweet. But in reality, you don't. I will never get back to [drugs] again. Where I am in life now. I've always wanted to be but never could get there.
