The Coolamon Spreader Chaser, by Coolamon Chaser Bins, is a "cost-saving" machine for farmers with judges impressed by its innovation, engineering and design.
The spreader chaser features a self-cleaning hopper and is equiped with Haze Ag polyurethane spinner blades with bevel edged spinner discs.
Thirteen machines, from across the country, were showcased in the competition with judges presenting a highly commended to the Offsider Ag Equipment Spin-a-Calf, entered by David Hicks from Queensland.
Judge Warren Scheetz said the spreader chaser was about "utilising two bins in one".
"They have always had quality chaser bins, now they have incorporated a precision spreader on the back," he said.
"You are sort of utilising the machine for harvest as well. Combining the two machines are definitely cost saving for farmers."
Coolamon Chaser Bins general manager Heath Hutchinson said the spreader chaser was launched in March and the feedback from farmers has been "really positive".
"To be recognised by farmers who are the judges means a lot and we are thrilled to take out the machine of the year," he said.
"A lot of farmers say they don't know why they haven't thought of it sooner.
"With the cost of machinery these days, bringing two into one, from a commercial point of view just makes a lot of sense."
Mr Hutchinson said the machine has been in the works for 18 months.
"The cost saving to farmers is what this is all about - you use a chaser bin for one month of the year and a spreader for six to nine months - and this machine can be hooked up to the back of the tractor all year round," he said.
Judging criteria include the machine's purpose and suitability, scope of application, construction, ease of maintenance and service, ease of operation and adjustment, availability of parts and overall value for money.
