Brookdale Bluebells will become the fifth team in this year’s competition, joining Riverina Lions, Charles Sturt University, Griffith and Snowy Mountain Bears.
The Bluebells, made up predominantly of Hume League players, will open the new season with a home game at Lockhart Sportsground on Friday week.
Brookdale coach David Webb said the new team had provided a number of girls with an opportunity to try the game.
“The girls are fantastic and have been having a ball,” Webb said.
“None of them have played much footy before, apart from school footy...they’ve got a lot to learn but we’ve been having a few training runs and they’re having a lot of fun, which is the main thing.”
“They’re excited and passionate, which is really good.”
Brookdale, sponsored by Riverina Bluebell, still have a couple of spots available for any interested players.
The competition runs for five weeks, plus a final. The Bluebells will be decked out in all new purple jumpers for the season.
