The masterplan is considering a range of initiatives including heritage issues, all-abilities access to shop fronts, pedestrian access, parking, landscaping, street furniture, drainage and to generally make improvements to the street function and amenity.
A focus group to assist with the initial set of principles for the masterplan was established. A first set of plans has now been prepared for public consultation and comment.
The first community engagement sessions are set for February 13 to 15, 2019, with an evening session from 6pm to 8pm on February 14 at the Lockhart Shire Council Chambers and an afternoon session from 1pm to 5pm on February 15 in front of the Lockhart IGA.
Face to face meetings with all shop owners is also scheduled for February 13 and an online survey will also be conducted from February 7 to February 28.
Following this the plans will be revised to incorporate the community’s feedback, and further public consultation is planned to occur in mid-April 2019. A third round of consultation will occur mid-June 2019 to present the final plans to the community before being presented to Council for endorsement.
The adoption of a masterplan will facilitate a co-ordinated and staged approach to future upgrades of the Lockhart central business centre in future years as funds permit.
