Margaret Smith, outgoing president of the Lockhart Branch of the Red Cross, stated in her annual report before retiring that the branch has 19 financial members of whom 15 volunteer in the shop front.

In the past year the branch supported Red Cross Calling and Big Cake Bake and sent $228 to the Myanmar Disaster Appeal.
It also supplied morning tea for blood donors when mobile blood van visits Lockhart, and $100 each given to St Joseph’s Primary School and Lockhart Central School.
The shop opened for a profitable two days on the weekend of Lockhart Spirit of The Land 2017 with takings of $835.
A letter was received from happy shopper in regard to a dress purchased from the shopfront and worn to her wedding when she married in England.
Donations were approved to support the “Let’s Talk” drought relief in the north of the state.
Members also collected red and white yarn to knit into strips to ‘yarn bomb’ two trees allocated to the branch in the lead up to the 2018 Spirit of The Land Festival.
Margaret then thanked those who support various functions to support the work of the Australian Red Cross.

- President: Mary Irons, who also accepted the position of secretary
- Minute secretaries: Kerry McDonnell and Beryl McDonnell.
- Vice presidents: Kerry McDonnell and Beryl McDonnell.

Mary Irons, zone president, reported that Australian Red Cross has formed a Red Cross Club in Wagga with the support of the Zimbabwe community and asked members of the local branch to assist them with donations of disabled aids, crutches and clothing.
Cathy Chapman, Community Relations Officer with Australian Red Cross Blood Service, said the mobile truck works in NSW and across the border to the Army Base and Uncle Toby’s.
Blood is collected for use in hospitals as whole blood, plasma and platelets.
There are only five processing centres in Australia for the blood taken from the 50,000 donors before being sent to hospitals.
Cathy said publicity is vital for the work of Red Cross and encouraged all branch members to invite young women to join the branch and to then mentor them.
