Mr Gleeson, who is blind, spoke to a capacity crowd in the club rooms at Osborne. He now wants to tell residents about the next adventure in his life which starts this week.
“I will be leaving Sydney on May 23 and on the 27th my two assistants will wave (or maybe clap me) goodbye as I set off on my own on a dry salt lake,” he said.
During the time Mr Gleeson will spend three days and two nights on his own using braille and an audible compass to trek 25 kilometres across Island Lagoon near Lake Eyre.
Through Vision Australia the event will allow Mr Gleeson to raise funds to help the vision impaired.
“It is important that people who are blind or who have low vision can receive critical assistance,” Mr Gleeson said.
In the past he has raced up the 1500 stairs of the Empire State Building and completed a 90km ultramarathon in South Africa.
He’s also trekked across the Simpson Desert, and in other adventures he reached the Everest Base Camp and the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro.
