Snowy Valleys Council is seeking tenders for the survey and design of a 10.6km section of Brindabella Road, which runs from Tumut to Canberra through the Brindabella Range.
The 130 kilometre road is significantly shorter than the widely-used Hume Highway route, which takes travellers through Yass. But it’s also more perilous with steep inclines and narrow sections making it prone to weather. On a good day, it takes about three hours to drive the road, much longer than the highway route.
Acting infrastructure director Heinz Kausche said Snowy Valleys Council was actively pursuing funding opportunities for upgrading the road, noting its significance as a tourist link to Canberra.
