He paid tribute to the success of the Osborne Football and Netball Club and acknowledged the tireless work of volunteers. He commended the club on the excellent facilities.
The fact that there was no town, just a ground and a region capable of producing talented players made it an even more significant success story.
It was noted that the region had once been home to footy players including Reg Gleeson and Adam Schneider who played Victorian Football League and Australian Football League.
To sum up the event it could best be described as putting sport, community service and the rural sector on a pedestal.
And this is exactly how life pans out for many who live in the eastern Riverina.
Primary industries are a mainstay, sport is perfect for recreation, fitness and community and the act of service and giving back can be seen everywhere.
To keep the tone of giving back flowing Kelly Forrest was named citizen of the year for the shire.
Her work ranged from organising a B&S Ball through to providing excellence in aged care for the region.
And Luke Mazzocchi, 12, of The Rock was the epitome of the talented youth in the region.
His wins and achievements stretched far beyond his years and he was named Lockhart Shire Council sportsman of the year.
Charlotte Fox, 11, earned fondness and admiration from the Osborne crowd as she boldly sang the National Anthem. And once the presentations were made it was time for the community to show that it knew how to have fun.
In true rural Aussie style a silo-bag was turned into a popular slip and slide.
There was also a jumping castle and a display of classic cars to keep people entertained.
