Three players Ben Parker (Holbrook), Nicholas Newton (Henty) and Charlie Douglas (Osborne) have made the Under 14 team.
The same number of players have also been chosen in the Under 16 side – Tom Heriot (Holbrook), Rory Jenkins (Culcairn) and Jack Driscoll (TRYC).
Both teams will play in the Riverina selection trial carnivals in Albury, November 12 to 14, at various grounds in Albury and Wodonga.
The Under 14 competition has had a name change with the winners accepting the Gorrel Cup, in name of former Riverina Cricket Zone Administrator, Graham Gorrel.
The Under 16s title is the Colsten/Scammell Shield named after long time Riverina coaches Terry Colsten and Tony Scammell.
Cricket NSW Regional Director of Coaching for Cricket Albury Wodonga Country, Sam O’Connor, said the country boys have been impressive.
“The boys from the Holbrook and District Cricket Association have been very impressive right throughout the winter preseason program,” O’Connor said.
“You only have to see the number of players that do well at all levels in Australian cricket from Riverina teams to grade cricket in the cities.”
“Steven Taylor who started his cricket at Holbrook won the Cricket Victoria’s Ryder Medal just two years ago and he to did the local pathway program.”
“It is terrific to see five of the HDCA towns provide players in the current squads and they all will play a big part in the carnivals,” he said.
The CAW Country team will play matches in both age groups against other Riverina cricket council teams Northern Riverina, Murrumbidgee and Southern Riverina.
The under 14s team will be coached by David Nichols and Michael Galvin, while O’Connor and Dylan Weeding will take charge of the Under 16 team.
“Not only does it provide young players great experience at these carnivals but it also provides our emerging coaches the chance to develop their methods and experience,” O’Connor said.
“Galvin and Weeding are.”
Following the carnival both the Riverina teams are chosen for the Bradman Cup (under 16) and Kookaburra Cup (under14) to be held in January 2018.
