Nick Evans stunned his girlfriend of 5½ years by popping the question on Cloud Nine on Saturday afternoon.
“I was not expecting it, that’s for sure,” Ms James said.
“There was a running joke that it will happen when hell freezes over.”
The Wodonga couple were joined by Falls Creek photographer Chris Hocking, who Mr Evans invited under the pretence of having portraits done.
Mr Evans, who described it as “one of those about-time moments”, said the couple regularly went snowboarding at the resort and Cloud Nine was a favourite spot of his fiancee.
Ms James was unsure when the wedding would be, but expected it be in summer.
Mr Hocking said he had averaged photographing one to two proposals each snow season over his 16 years at Falls Creek.
