The Shire Council together with Lockhart Rotary combined resources to seek out nominations and ultimately winners in several different categories of the inaugural business awards.
Nominations were diverse with farming businesses, retail, local government and fabrication all represented.
Lockhart Rotary president and local farmer Bill McDonnell said he was pleased with how the awards eventuated for the first year.
“I was really pleased with it and it was good to see that so many people wanted to get involved,” he said.

Mr McDonnell said he wasn’t involved in the judging process but the feedback indicated that the calibre of nominations was extremely high.
“Considering this was the first awards the quality was high and the amount of nominations was good,” he said.
The process involved members of the community nominating worthy individuals and businesses. The nominees then had an opportunity to submit resumes and supporting material to a judging panel.
“It was diverse, it showed the various businesses and individual we have in the shire,” Mr McDonnell said.
The winners received a trophy at the presentation evening and all runners up were presented with a certificate.
Mr McDonnell said the plan was to keep the business awards running each year to continue to recognise high performers in the region.
“It is just a really good way to recognise people in our community and for their peers to recognise those who do well,” he said.
