POLICE have been given more time to finalise their evidence against a Lockhart man accused of deliberately causing burn injuries to a teenager.
Brody Mulqueeney, 20, is charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm.
Police say Mulqueeney, a 14-year-old boy and two other people were in the backyard of a Lockhart home on Sunday, August 28, when Mulqueeney allegedly threw flammable liquid on the teen before igniting a lighter near him.
Police claim the liquid on the teen caught fire and he suffered serious burns to his arm, hands and back. He was airlifted to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead for emergency treatment of his injuries.
Detectives from the State Crime Command’s child abuse squad were called in to head the investigation.
Mulqueeney’s defence solicitor, Rohan Harrison, told Wagga Local Court on Wednesday the prosecution’s brief of evidence was incomplete.
The court heard an expert’s statement was still outstanding.
Magistrate Michael Crompton granted the prosecution a brief extension order and adjourned the case until February 1.
