The Rock-Yerong Creek are aiming to give the Farrer League a dose of Murray magic next season.
The Pies have signed former AFL player Derek Murray and younger brother Matt from Hume League club Murray Magpies.
The experienced Derek was a highly-regarded junior who was drafted in 1998 and played 23 games for Port Adelaide.
Next season will be 20 years since he won a Morrish medal as the best player in the TAC Cup. But the 36-year old small forward proved more than handy this year kicking 41 goals in 18 games.
Midfielder Matt was also a Murray Bushranger as a youngster.
His resume since includes a premiership with Balwyn in Melbourne’s Eastern Football League as well as stints with Ovens and Murray League clubs Wodonga Raiders and North Albury.
“I think Derek will be pretty exciting and Matt, he’ll be tough – in and under – so it should be good,” TRYC coach Tom Yates said.
Their recruitment also locks in good mate and full-back Casey Hillary for another season at The Rock.
Yates also confirmed the return of the versatile Dennis Pedemont. Family ties drew the 2015 premiership player to Tocumwal this year but he’ll return to Victoria Park.
TRYC have had one hiccup with exciting Newcastle youngster Max Hillier (brother of Luke) pulling out.
The Pies announced the Sydney Swans academy product weeks ago but he’s since told Yates he’s going to head to Wodonga Raiders, coached by former Swan Daryn Cresswell.
