LAST Saturday, Lockhart bowlers played host to teams from Holbrook in the Odewahn Shield, with Holbrook the better side on the day.
It was an atrocious day as the wind chill factor did nothing to make the day except for the manner in which bowlers participated in a very friendly manner.
Max Montgomery lost to W Kalestra 10 to 27, while Jason Healy also lost to J Husphril 17 to 23.
Jason was in front and was eventually pipped at the last couple of ends.
Barry Love had a close win over T Liddell, 23 to 21
Holbrook eventually gleaned a total score of 73 to 50.
This last Sunday, with a much better weather report, proved a fine social day organised by the Schirmer family under the patronage of Col Schirmer.
The Roy and Lil Schirmer Memorial Day is an annual event and is well supported by many Lockhart locals. Col’s daughter, Cindy, travelled from Darwin to participate in the bowls.
Winners were Rhonda Johnstone and president Barry Love. They defeated John “Fingers” Franklin and Cindy Schirmer.
Runners up were Barbara Wilson and Steve Johnstone who defeated Barbara Doherty and John Smith.
The social side of bowling in Lockhart is really on the up and it is notable that next weekend we will see the invitation day to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Lockhart Bowling Club.
Many teams from surrounding clubs have expressed great interest in supporting this event.
The general public is welcome to attend. Happy birthday Lockhart Bowling Club.
