The Olympic games have always inspired young athletes, but how about old ones?
Three aged care facilities are taking part in their own version of the Olympic games, the Olympic challenge, with around 20 residents taking part.
Emily Gardens in The Rock, the Friendship Club in The Rock and The Haven in Wagga are taking part in the competition.
This is the first time the facilities have come together for an event.
Residents do mock swimming races and other activities while competing against each other.
After the first round the Friendship Club are in the lead followed by Emily Gardens.
Activities co-ordinator Marie Sonneman said the games were attracting a lot residents than the regular activities.
“People who don’t usually do physical activity are getting involved because they don’t see it as exercise,” she said.
Aside from the physical element the games also offer the residents a chance to socialise with residents from other facilities.
