The Perzel family have been a strong part of the social fabric of the Henty region since 1873.
The extended family reunited in Henty on Saturday at the Henty Community Centre from across Victoria and NSW. The family started on 320 acres in the Parish of Castlestead, south of Walla Walla in 1873.
John Henry Pertzel (known as Harry) and his Scottish wife Susan McFarlane settled in Henty and raised 12 children.
The last of this generation passed away in recent years. The reunion may now become an annual event.
The family believe that all Pertzels in Australia originated in Brandenburg, Prussia (now part of Germany).
Adolph Theodore Heinrich Pertzel was born in Brandenburg, Prussia, on June 20, 1808, to Carl Heinrich Pertzel and Luise Christiane Stammer.
The Australian family was founded with the emigration of Adolph, Augusta and Rudolph Pertzel in June 1846 on the barque Pauline from Bremen, Germany, which arrived in Port Adelaide, South Australia, on September 27, 1846.
