The hosts secured all three rinks to win 73-39 overall and claim the 10 points on offer.

Les Murphy accounted for Terry Hensel, 28-11, Bernie Mahlo beat Dave Trebley, 24-10, while David Barnes held off Jim Lee, 24-18. 

Lavington set up its victory against Henty on one rink, scoring the maximum number of shots on an end.

It was crucial to the outcome as the Panthers only won by four shots, 57-53.

On the second end, Adrian Pantling's rink recorded the maximum eight shots – a feat rarely achieved in pennant.

Henty was holding shot and Lavington third Les Waldron suggested to Pantling an attempt to trail the jack to where their team had many waiting bowls.

Pantling was successful and Lavington was thought to have had four or five shots.

But after measuring, it turned out to be the maximum available with the game finishing 22-16 in his favour against Peter Forck.

Ken Allen edged out Kim Maher 20-18, while Glen Harrison grabbed Henty’s only point with a 19-15 result against Vic Moore.

North Albury moved to top spot with a hard-fought win against Howlong, 63-58.

Stephen Broad’s 27-18 win against Phil Slater proved the difference, with Howlong’s Ian Doolan defeating Allen Ross, 22-19, and John Dawson scraping through against Norm Honey, 17-18.

The ladder is: North Albury 35, Howlong 34, Lavington 34, Commercial 30, Culcairn 12, Henty 5.

Next Sunday is the start of the district singles.

Lastly, North Albury Bowling Club will have a barefoot bowls competition for men, women and mixed teams starting on March 2.

The five-week competition will run for two hours, starting at 6pm each Thursday for $10 per player.

The format is two-bowl triples and players can take part in bare feet, thongs or flat sole shoes.
