Emergency crews were called to the Hilton Surfers Paradise Hotel on Surfers Paradise Boulevard at the Queensland holiday hotspot at 1.55am on March 14 with reports of a fire on the top level of the building.
The blaze is believed to have started on the rooftop of the five-star hotel. Witnesses captured footage of the fire as burning debris fell from the rooftop.
"There was a loud bang that woke us up at around 1:50am and we went to our veranda to check, and we saw fire on top of the Hilton Hotel building," witness Joevilyn Bacolcol told ACM.
"Embers were falling some landed on top of the Steampunk Rooftop and on the ground. It was scary, and it is good that there was no strong wind at that time".

"We dialled the fire brigade but there was no answer. We dialled 000 and report to them the fire. We saw police cars came first. The fire trucks came at around 2:10 am."
A Queensland Fire Department spokesperson said debris from the roof fell down to a lower level of the building.
Another fire was put out on the side of the hotel, emergency services said.

The fires were extinguished by 2.40am and guests were allowed to return to their rooms by 5.30am.
"Initial investigations indicate the fire is non-suspicious," Queensland Police said.
No one was injured during the fire, police said.
