Have you always wanted to visit the Inca citadel of Machu Pichhu in Peru? Here's something that'll fire up your wanderlust even more (as well as being a great reason to plan a Sydney getaway). Tickets have just gone on sale for Machu Picchu and the Golden Empires of Peru - the Australian Museum's (AM) summer exhibition and virtual reality experience, opening on November 23.

Sydney will become the fourth city in the world (after Paris, Milan and Boca Raton in Florida, USA) to host this exhibition, created by Peru's Museo Larco and Museo de Sitio Manuel Chavez Ballon, and featuring 134 artefacts. "Machu Picchu is a bucket-list destination for many Australians, and this exhibition will further inspire visitors with its state-of-the-art storytelling," says AM's Kim McKay. australian.museum

Solo and steady

Believe it or not, but almost half of Australians (43 per cent) dine solo every month. In fact, 72 per cent of Australians intend to dine solo at least once this year, according to a new report by OpenTable and Kayak. The research also shines a light on solo travel, which is showing no signs of slowing down, with 41 per cent of the survery respondents planning to do it on their own. Paris, Dubai, Los Angeles, London and New York are the top five destinations for solo travellers, while early lunches (bedween 11am and 12pm) and late dinners (after 8pm) are the preferred booking times for solo diners. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays are the most popular days of the week for solo dining, while "practising self care" is one of the key reasons why people are choosing solo travel, with 35 per cent citing that as the reason for doing so.
