We know they are popping up everywhere, but these two tiny houses are certainly poles apart. Tiny Away, which has more than 150 of these container-sized holiday homes around Australia, has opened a new rental in Crackenback in the Snowy Mountains.

Despite its small size, it is equipped with a kitchenette, queen-sized bed, ensuite bathroom, air conditioning and heating. The bathroom facilities include a waterless eco-friendly compost toilet, hand basin and shower, which is gas heated for hot showers.

If a land holiday isn’t enough for you then Lilypad, a tiny house, which was designed by Chuck Anderson and first opened in 2018 before burning down in 2020, is open for bookings again. The mini house is moored a short distance from the yachts at Palm Beach Anchorage.

The two-storey off-grid house is minimalist and features water views from almost everywhere. There’s plenty of space to entertain and an infrared sauna and outdoor shower.
