Rain dances aside, all other genres are now welcome.
As restrictions on gathering and dancing owing to the COVID-19 global pandemic are surely and steadily eased, our dance cards are starting to fill up again.
Dance floors are back in Victoria from Friday while NSW did the same earlier this month and just moved to allow drinking while standing.
A little more than a year ago I was flat out learning a hip hop routine - literally.
I was down in the cabbage patch; then back up on my iron horse.
I was tutting, popping and bouncing to every sick beat!
No one had even mentioned "hip hop" in a sentence when I signed up for Stars of the Border 2020 Dance for Cancer early last year. (That's the NSW-Victorian border in case you were wondering, and you can read all about it if you are a subscriber of The Border Mail.)
It was all-singing, all-dancing with a super side of fundraising thrown into the neatly-choreographed community event.
The big money-spinner for Cancer Council NSW did not have a break-dancing component, as far as I knew.
Anyhow, a year is a long time in the dance world especially amid a global pandemic.
Now the postponed cancer fundraiser is back on track in the form of Stars of the Border 2021 Dance for Cancer.
It is a slightly different team this year with some new people on board and some interesting dance genres to boot.
Twelve Border identities will each learn a routine with a trained NSW-Victorian border-based dance teacher.
Think Latin, ballroom, cabaret, contemporary and hip hop-funk.
With a new ballet teacher in tow, I'm now learning to dance on my toes. Mind you, it will never be on pointe!
Stars of the Border 2021 Dance for Cancer runs at Albury Entertainment Centre on Friday, May 14.
There is a bunch of fundraisers leading up to that main event in the form of a Magic Mike Movie Night, Sparkling Wine, Seafood and Sunset and a Posh Plonk on Main High Tea.
After a year of limited social outings, our dance cards are finally filling up fast again.
You can keep up with Stars of the Border here.
Better still, you can even donate to your favourite dancer.
