All games made a start, but it was only the matches at Rand and Lockhart that got a result, with mid-afternoon rain causing matches to be washed out.
Rand, who have won the first two CAW Hume premierships, made a good start to its defence with a win over The Rock Yerong Creek courtesy of a better run rate.
The Pigeons batted first and posted 161, with Mark Kreutzberger top-scoring with (35), while Jack Driscoll took three wickets for the visitors.
In reply, TRYC got behind the run rate early, with wickets falling.
Todd Hannam was (42 no) when rain intervened with TRYC 5/87 off 30 overs.
The run rate was well below that of Rand, and with 20 overs completed in the second innings Rand were winners.
Lockhart was the other winners for the opening round and didn't they do it the hard way against Culcairn at Lockhart.
The home side batted first and posted 4/96 off its 40 overs after being at one stage 1/60. Norm Barlow bowled superbly for the Lions, taking 2/9 off eight overs.
In reply, Culcairn had the run rate required under control but kept losing wickets against the pressure bowling of Jordan Renner 4/9 off 7.1 overs and father Clint 1-4 off six overs.
The Lions were dismissed in the 35th over for 82 with Riley Knobel the top-scorer with (18). Liam Widdup took three wickets for Lockhart.
Walla skipper Tom Simmons was the standout performer in the Walla versus Holbrook match at Walla, which finished in a draw.
Simmons was a lone hand for Walla, finishing unbeaten on (52) when rain forced the stop to play in the 34th over with Walla 5/106.
Holbrook bowled well with Cooper Walsh 2/17 and Eddie Edlinger 0/6 off five overs the best.
Walbundrie, who has lost several key players from last year, batted first against Osborne and posted 7/143 with Jacob Miller (38) and Mason Collins (36) best with the bat.
Josh McDonnell 2/18 and Joe Perryman 1/20 off eight overs were the best bowlers. Perryman was 40 not out when rain washed out play, with Osborne strongly placed at 1/63 off 16.2 overs.
The final match between Brock-Burrum and Henty at Brocklesby lasted the one innings before rain set in and forced play to be abandoned.
The home side had posted 5/142 with Trent I'Anson (53 no) and Davey Williams (37) leading the way on a slow outfield.
The Swampies' best bowling came from veteran left-armer David White 2/12 off eight overs.
Former premiership player Chris Manns has returned to play this season in a huge boost for Henty.
