The Central Victorian Football League Women's season was originally slated to kick off on April 5, but like all other community football, remains on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But the door still very much remains open for the competition that features Golden Square, Strathfieldsaye, Kyneton, North Bendigo, Kangaroo Flat, Eaglehawk and new-comers Kerang to take to the field this year.

"Our clubs are pro-active about the possibility of still playing and are keen," AFLCV regional operations manager Norm Sheehan said.

"The women's competition is a bit similar to the juniors in that they don't have the issue of having to raise money through the gate to pay players and if they were playing a stand-alone game probably wouldn't have their canteen open, so logistically, they are a lot easier to organise a game for.

"So at this stage we don't see why we can't set something up in the women's space."

If a CVFLW season gets off the ground, it could provide an avenue for Bendigo Thunder players to play on permits given their Northern Football League season has been cancelled.

"We've already had some conversations with the Thunder in regards to their situation because we still want players in our region to be able to play where possible," Sheehan said.
