All positions inside the top six are still up for grabs, with Rand currently leading and looking set to defend its inaugural title in the CAW Hume from last season.
The Pigeons have opened up a three-game break on the three teams equal on second - TRYC, Walla and Osborne.
Only Holbrook and Culcairn are out of finals reckoning, while Brock Burrum would have to almost win all four matches to qualify.
The Brookers and the Lions both played finals last year with Holbrook defeating Culcairn in week one of finals.
Last year's grand finalist Walbundrie has dropped to sixth place and will need to find some form in a hurry if they are to play finals.
Henty with some excellent recent form is looming as a finals' dark horse.
Lockhart is just half a game outside of the top six. The clash this week at Lockhart between the home side and Walbundrie will most likely decide fifth position.
If Walbundrie were to win they would move a game and a half clear of Lockhart, who have a tough run home with games against Walla and TRYC.
Henty also has a tricky run home with an away game to Holbrook, followed up by Osborne (home), Rand (away) and Walla at home.
Top position guarantees the double chance in finals. If the top side wins in week one, the second side then becomes the beneficiary of a double chance.
If both first and second win in finals the loser of the third versus fourth game in week one of finals will get a double chance if they lose.
The finals dates are February 29 and March 7, with the grand final being played on March 14 at the home ground of the highest ranked team.
The race for the leading run-scorer is a tight one with TRYC pair Todd Hannam (468) and Aiden Ridley (407) leading from Shannon Terlich (374).
The bowling is being led by Walla quick Joel Merkel (22), followed by Daniel Terlich (18) and the Ralston boys Brayden and Clint on (17).
The champion player award is a two-horse race between Hannam and Merkel. Points are awarded for every run, wicket and catch.
Both grades of junior cricket recommence this Saturday in CAW Under 13 and Under 16 competitions.
