Going into the 2019-20 mid season break, the Pigeons are two games clear in top position.
They have strung together eight straight wins after suffering a round 1 loss.
Rand has won an incredible seven consecutive flags, with six in a row before last year's first-up CAW Hume premiership.
Remarkably, it does not have a batsman in the top 14 leading run scorers, with skipper Bryce Swift 15th with 185 runs.
The Pigeons' all-round strength extends to the bowling, with brothers Clint and Brayden Ralston fourth and fifth in the league's leading wicket takers.
The battle for the top six looks to be down to seven teams, with Brocklesby Burrumbuttock, Holbrook and Culcairn two games out in a bunched field.
TRYC, Osborne and Walbundrie are tied for second on the ladder with six wins.
Walla is just one win behind and Lockhart is half a game further back.
Henty finds itself in seventh place with four wins, just half a game behind Lockhart.
The two sides will play each other at Lockhart when cricket action resumes on January 11.
Cricket Albury Wodonga Hume's bottom three teams - Holbrook, Brock Burrum and Culcairn - would have to win all five games in the new year to play in this year's finals series.
In the second grade competition, Oaklands is leading the way by half a game at the midway point ahead of three teams in Osborne, Walbundrie and Holbrook.
In the individual awards, the leading wicketaker and most runs scored is wide open as batters in particular are feasting on this season's dry and fast outfields.
In the batting rankings, The Rock Yerong Creek pairing of Todd Hannam (391 runs) and Aiden Ridley (320) are holding down top-two positions.
The next five batsmen are very close, with Holbrook skipper Hamish Mackinlay and Lockhart's Brad McMillian both on 298.
In the bowling, it is Walla all-rounder Joel Merkel who leads with 20 wickets in total from Henty's Daniel Terlich (17) and Holbrook's Lewis Bowen (16).
Merkel is also leading the player of the year race from Hannam. Osborne's emerging star Joe Perryman sits in third place ahead of Walbundrie's Alex McMaster.
With this being last edition for 2019, I would like to wish all readers a safe and happy festive season and I hope the year 2020 is a great one.
