Detectives from Murray River Police District commenced an investigation under Strike Force Demetrius into the disappearance of William Chaplin, who was last seen in Gerogery in 2010.
Following extensive inquiries, strike force investigators, with the assistance of Queensland Homicide Squad detectives arrested a 25-year-old on Thursday.
He appeared at Townsville Magistrates Court on Friday, September 6, where detectives applied for and were granted his extradition to NSW.
The Townsville man was escorted by police on a flight back to Sydney on Saturday.
He was taken to Mascot Police Station where he was charged with murder.
He was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today.

A man is in custody in Queensland as police investigate the suspected murder of a man in Gerogery nearly a decade ago.
The 25-year-old was arrested in Townsville on Thursday following the disappearance of William Chaplin in 2010.
Albury officers have reportedly questioned the man over the death of Mr Chaplin, but he has not been charged.

A NSW Police spokeswoman on Friday said police were working to return the man to the state.
"Murray River Police Detectives are in the process of extraditing a 25-year-old Queensland man back to NSW in relation to the murder of William Chaplin," the spokeswoman said.
Police had made an interstate appeal for information over the suspected homicide.
Police had spent five days at the Olympic Highway site last week, searching for evidence.
The arrested man would have only been a teenager at the time of Mr Chaplin's suspected disappearance.
Mr Chaplin had been staying at a home on the town's main street, near the site of the search, and was last seen alive in May 2010.
Despite not being seen for nearly a decade, police said he had only recently been reporting missing by family.
The Townsville Bulletin reported that the man would be charged with murder once he has been extradited to NSW.
There are reportedly more people of interest in the case and more arrests likely in coming days.
