A 74-year-old man was discovered lying next to a ute on a farm near The Rock on Tuesday evening.
Emergency services were called around 5.30pm, with paramedics and police rushing to the Vincents Road property.
However, the man succumbed to his extremely serious injuries and died at the scene.
Inspector Adrian Telfer from Wagga police said investigations are continuing, however it's believed the man's death was the result of a horrible turn of events.
"We believe this is a tragic accident," he told media on Wednesday morning.
"We're still trying to piece together exactly what happened but at this stage we certainly believe this was an accident."
Police believe the man sustained his injuries while trying to stop the vehicle from rolling down a hill.

"We believe it may have been parked at the time but it has rolled shortly thereafter and we've had a fatality as a result," Inspector Telfer said.
"There's certainly nothing dangerous involved, we believe this is a terrible accident involving an elderly gentleman."
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
