Each year the Lockhart Shire Photographic Competition calls for the images that depict the essence and beauty of the area.
Ultimately the images are then used in promotional material for the region. However, that is not before passing on some prizes to the entrant.
Lockhart Shire tourism and economic development officer, Jennifer Connor said the region was ideal for capturing beautiful photographs. And if competitions from past years were to be a guide she said some great images were set to flow in. "The competition is open to both residents and visitors," she said.
Amateur and professional photographers can enter the shire's competition too. The Love Lockhart Shire Photographic Competition, which closes on June 30 2019, is a free photo competition sponsored by Lockhart Shire Council.
Now in its fourth year, the competition aims to encourage participation in photography while also promoting the many wonderful aspects of Lockhart Shire.
All entries in the 2019 competition will be displayed in the new showrooms at Greens Gunyah Museum during the Spirit of the Land Festival weekend on October 12 and 13 2019.
Mrs Connor said the competition was strongly supported in 2018 and organisers expected high standard entries again. "There are some incredible regional photographers, and as proven in last year's competition, you don't need to be a professional photographer to take home the prize," she said.
Past entries have been diverse from portrait images showing lots of character through to beautiful landscapes including the iconic landmarks such as The Rock Hill Reserve and the scenic farming land in the eastern Riverina. Other images show wildlife in the region or can depict how farming operations may have looked in years gone by.
Entries were submitted using everything from smart phone photos through to the most sophisticated camera gear.
The two competition categories are open and youth and include:
Open Category:
- $500 - First Prize
- $200 - Second Prize
- $100 - Highly Commended (2 awarded)
Youth Category (Under 18):
- $100 - First Prize
