Margaret Hasler, as a first time conference delegate, when asked for her thoughts, said it was "mind boggling - they cover so much".
As always, there were resolutions on all sorts of issues - the term "milk", urgent investigation into the dairy industry crisis, noxious weeds, public cancer clinics, aged care services, rural businesses in drought areas to be eligible for drought relief, to get a greater number of truck specific rest areas on roads - were just some of the resolutions discussed, as well as several "motions of urgency" which were received at conference.
Since CWA is known to have the biggest "Women's Voice" in our nation, all the motions passed then become CWA policy, which are discussed and lobbied for with the various relevant government departments, and the discussion results are later published in our journal. Four members attended the Riverina Group Dinner on the Sunday, three members attended the Land Cookery Workshop on the Thursday, and Bev Frohling attended the International Workshop. Several members were able to check out the Land Cookery and the Handicraft Display, and we contributed various items to the CWA Display in the Albury City Library.
The State Medical Project was endometriosis and a cheque was handed to them at conference for $35,000. We will again support this project for the next 12 months.
The Show Catering Committee presented the Association with a cheque for $145,000, which, with $7000 already given, was the profit from 2018 Sydney Show.
Our thanks go to Eunice McRae for doing the floral table arrangement which graced the State Secretary's table on the stage at State Conference.
Lyn Jacobsen was on the Albury organising committee, so also had a very busy week. The idea of making and plating scones, then selling them during the mornings for Drought Relief Administration came about after the Prime Minister's visit, and this was a hit among the members, as well as adding vital dollars to that cause. Lyn also received a second prize in the State Land Cookery with her gluten free lamingtons.
The Group Cultural Day is June 17 and we hope to have an entry. We have a Bunnings barbecue coming up this weekend. We find as we are a smaller branch, this is an excellent way for us to make some money.
We had two items from our new Land Cookery: traditional sponge cake: 1st Lyn Jacobsen, 2nd Margaret Hasler, and Honey Jumbles: 1st Eunice McRae, 2nd Lyn J, and 3rd Margaret. Next month we're to have lime and buttermilk cake and date loaf. Recipes must be used from June 2018 Journal. The raffle was won by Eunice.
The next meeting is at the Commercial Club on June 12 at 10.30am and we're asking for cookery handy hints and ideas.
