The home side got home by just one point in an entertaining clash in front of a healthy crowd on the beautifully manicured Osborne ground.
Hume made it four wins in four seasons with Farrer being added to the victims list of Riverina (2016), Tallangatta (2017) and Ovens and King in 2018.
Both sides were well short of their best possible teams, but the players on hand put in a great contest that kept
The match see-sawed all day with the margin never getting larger than 14 points by either side.
The final score had Hume 14-9-93 beat Farrer 13-14-92.
The lead at each break was under a goal, with the Farrer surprising many with its youthful outfit really testing the Hume.
Farrer looked like causing a big upset when they led by ten points in the final term, before four quick goals got the Hume back in business.
Danny Warren who booted five goals for the game kicked two goals in two minutes during the final quarter surge by Hume.
Nico Sedgwick, in his first senior interleague match, was voted best on ground with his work rate and clearances outstanding.
Former Holbrook midfielder Curtis Steele (now at Coleambally) was best for Farrer with a brilliant three-goal performance.
Hume suffered a couple of injuries with Mick Collins hurting an ankle and Duncan McMaster injuring a shoulder that left him in a sling post match.
Tyson Neander, Kade O'Malley, Brian Lieschke and Jordan Harrington were excellent for the Hume, while Mitch Haddrill, Brad Moye and Nic Curran were good for Farrer.
For Hume coach Brent Piltz it was his third straight success after taking over from Josh Walker and he was a delighted man after the game.
"It was a close contest with nothing in it. I just told the boys to do it for themselves and reward their commitment to playing," Piltz said.
"It could've gone either way, it to'd and fro'd a bit and it was just who made the most of momentum when they had it.
"I thought we just needed two or three goals to get our momentum going but to the Farrer's credit, they didn't let that happen."
