This was $14,817 less than the average taxable income of the postcode 2661, which comprised of Kapooka.

The primarily defence-focused suburb, located south-west of Wagga, earns $69,573.

The statistics are an average of the taxable income of the entire workforce and included both full-time and part-time workers.

The postcodes of 2585, which comprised of Galong, and 2588, of Wallendbeen, also have a higher average taxable income than Wagga at $69,573 and $59,810.

Asides from Forest Hill, which earns $50,658, and Coolamon, $50,633, no postcodes near Wagga has an average taxable income above $50,000.

Wagga's average taxable income has slightly increased from the previous year where residents earned an average of $54,599.

The city, however, still remains under the national average income of $59,014.

Nationwide, there was a difference of $209,741 in average income between the richest and poorest postcodes.

The poorest postcode in Australia was in New South Wales where the average taxable income was $20,589, while the highest average taxable income of $230,330 was also in New South Wales in the Sydney suburbs, which includes Palm Beach.

Medical practitioners dominated the highest earning occupations, with surgeons posting the biggest national average taxable incomes of $393,866.

Fast-food cooks were the lowest earners with an average income of $18,616.
