The seat of Wagga was won by independent candidate Dr Joe McGirr however, if voting at Pleasant Hills or Yerong Creek was to be a guide Nationals candidate Makenna Powell earned a big portion of the vote in these towns.
Had the voting trends at Pleasant Hills or Yerong Creek been followed in other polling locations the outcome for the seat of Wagga would have seen overwhelming support for the Nationals.
In contrast The Rock reflected a favour towards Dr McGirr with most voters giving him the number one spot.
The NSW State Electoral Commission's breakdown provides an insight into voter activity given the seat of Wagga had been a Liberal "safe seat" up until the by election last year. Dr McGirr said his tally was due in part to the lack of another high-profile independent. "It's not me being validated, but it is just great to have it reinforced for the electorate," he said. "It wasn't just a protest vote. People are prepared to give me a four-year go at this."
To the south in the seat of Albury voting trends of years past continued. It took just three hours after the polls closed for Justin Clancy to be declared the next Albury MP, but the result seemed clear as soon at the first votes started coming through. The Liberal successor to retiring member Greg Aplin was the hot favourite to retain the seat and voters turned to him as expected.

"I feel the privilege of being Albury's community representative," he said. "I feel the privilege and I feel the responsibility and I'm looking forward to contributing to Albury."
Those living in the Albury electorate of the eastern Riverina reflected the overwhelming support for Mr Clancy.
Voting at Burrumbuttock, Henty, Culcairn, Gerogery, Howlong, Jindera, Holbrook and Urana showed dominant support for the Liberal candidate.
