Bergman set the course alight to take more than a minute and a half of the time set by Ryan Miller and Caleb Noble in 2017.
It was a hometown victory in the women’s event with The Rock’s Briony Mazzocchi continuing her good form with another win.
Albury triathlete Angela Sandral led throughout the swim and bike legs before Mazzocchi ran her down to win the race for a second consecutive year.
Triathlon organiser Michael Mazzocchi said Bergman’s course record was a highlight on an action-packed day.
“It was good, fast conditions with no wind but it was a bloody good effort from Jake to get that time,” Mazzocchi said.
“In the women’s, Angela was leading through the bike and swim and Briony ran her down on the run to win by a minute.
“It was a good race. It’s not very often that you see the lead chop and change like that.”
It was another successful triathlon at The Rock. There was record entries with more than 200 competing.
“We had a good day. We had a heap of numbers, which is great,” Mazzocchi said.
“It was really well supported and is really worthwhile running now. There were a heap of first timers, which is good for the sport. Hopefully they keep coming back.”
The Rock offered electronic timing for the first time this year, which really added to the event.
“We’re reinvesting into it,” Mazzochi said.
“When you get good numbers coming it allows you to reinvest. We’re trying to make it a good experience.”
Bergman won in a time of 58 minutes and 23 seconds, ahead of Scott Donaldson (59:07) and Jackson Tenhave (1:02.23).
Mazzocchi clocked in at 1:04.57, in front of Sandral (1:06.01) and Sharon Macmaster (1:10.39).
The wins extended Bergman and Mazzocchi’s lead in the Riverina Tri Series, with two legs to go at Holbrook and West Wyalong.
