In a Bond University study, which measured contributions in communities, Lockhart came out on top.
The results from the Happiness Project probably just articulated a fact that many people in the shire already knew.
One of the people who calls the region home and enjoys helping out in community roles is Petrina O'Connor.
Mrs O'Connor of The Rock is involved with the town's recreation ground committee, where she holds the office position of treasurer.

She is also on The Rock pool committee, treasurer of Meals on Wheels and drives the local school bus.
And when she is not helping out on one of the committees she can be found enjoying a quite spot on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River. Fishing is one of her favourite activities.
In recent times she was part of the group which was instrumental in making the concept of The Rock Gym become a reality.
It is the only gym in the shire and the facility offers residents an opportunity to exercise close by rather than travelling to Wagga.
"We saw a need here in The Rock, and people are excited that they don't have to go to Wagga (to visit a gym)," she said.
The gym works on a "swipe-card" system and is open from 5am to 10pm and while it is early days membership uptake has been strong.
Mrs O'Connor said with the various sporting groups such as touch, netball and football, and the fact the gym was in the swimming pool precinct, meant The Rock was certainly catering for those with an interest in fitness.
She said the gym was an ideal add on to the already-popular cycling and walking track which is located near The Rock Hill Nature Reserve.
"There are always people using the bike track, it has been popular," she said.
The gym at The Rock is located in a brand-new building and features several exercise machines, weights, and a television.
Mrs O'Connor said the cost was inviting too. She said any money raised from membership would be reinvested into the facility. People can join for as little as $60 for three months.
"It is great to be providing a service that people can use," she said.
And interest in group fitness classes and guidance from personal trainers in the area has increased too. She said the vibe in the community was good and people felt like they could participate in activities within the town.
She said it was an attractive area to live.
And with the new pool, scheduled to be built at The Rock, this would further add to the town's sporting interests.
"It is a self-sufficient community," she said.
Mrs O'Connor said the community was also doing well in terms of hosting events. She said the B&S Ball draws a lot of people into the town. And she also commended the organisers of The Rock Charity Rodeo. She said funds raised were donated back to the community.
