The NSW Office of Preventive Health project aims to create healthier towns and encourage communities to develop solutions to improve the health and wellbeing of families and individuals.

Culcairn gained $15,000 to support the community as part of the challenge. The winning town will earn extra money.

Greater Hume Council Mayor Heather Wilton said Culcairn was a natural choice as it already had good infrastructure including a walking and cycle track.

“A lot of people have health and lifestyle goals and the challenge will help people to get on board and take some positive steps towards a healthier lifestyle in 2019,” she said.

The challenge will urge people to sign up to the free Get Healthy Information and Coaching Service to help achieve individual health goals.

An all-weather table tennis table will be installed.

“There are opportunities for people to get involved whether it is increased physical activity, making healthier food choices, volunteering or attending one of the events,” Cr Wilton said.

A free breakfast launch will give people more details at the Coach Terminal Park at Culcairn on Wednesday from 7am to 9am.

A stakeholder committee was formed with representatives from LHAC, Culcairn Football Netball Club, Billabong High School, Culcairn Public School, St Joseph’s School, Youth Advisory Committee, Red Cross with Great Hume Council and Murrumbidgee Local Health District.
