The building’s owner Kekin Patel has said that he was seeking permission to demolish the post office within the next 12 months as part of the construction of a new truck stop
A Wagga City statement said the council was “not considering a development application at this time,”
“Council has no specific plans to require the owner to demolish the building,” the statement said.
Progress Association president Russ Meyers has called for the building, which has sat unused for decades, to be torn down or redeveloped.
“Every year it has deteriorated in condition to the point where it has just been an eyesore for the past 10 to 15 years,” he said.
“The Collingullie locals want it removed. We have had enough.”
Mr Meyers claimed Wagga City Council had been too lenient on the owners.
