Among the commemorative events will be a Victory Ball on November 10 hosted by the Pleasant Hills Hall Committee which will include music, dancing and an old fashion supper whilst the Yerong Creek Hall Committee is planning a Light Horse Re-enactment and commemorative plaque to mark the occasion.
The Lockhart RSL Sub-Branch will be hosting a morning tea at the Lockhart Cenotaph following the Remembrance Day ceremony. The Sub-Branch has been successful in securing a grant under the Community War Memorials Fund to refurbish the Cenotaph including cleaning the cenotaph, repairing the gold gilding on the memorial panels and replacing the uneven concrete around the Cenotaph with pavers and other embellishments.
The Rock RSL Sub-Branch will be putting on a barbecue lunch after its November 11 ceremony, followed by a sports afternoon. The Rock RSL Sub-Branch recently commemorated the 100th anniversary of The Rock’s Avenue of Honour. The Avenue of Honour was established in the town when in 1918 local women simultaneously planted trees in the avenue to represent the District’s WWI soldiers.
