It was an opening that coincided with warmer temperatures in the region and allowed members of the Lockhart Shire to celebrate the project which received a $1,528,000 grant from the Stronger Country Communities Fund. 

Lockhart Shire Council mayor, Rodger Schirmer said the pool had reached the end of its “economic life.” 

The original pool at Lockhart was constructed in 1956.

“The typical design life for a swimming pool is 50 years,” he said. 

He explained that the upgraded included new pool shells with wet decks, all abilities access ramps, a new energy efficient filtration system plus a new barbecue and amenities area.

“The refurbishment will ensure the community has modern, safe and accessible swimming facilities for another 50 years,” he said. 

Wagga Nationals MP, Wes Fang said the upgrades ensured the community had a state-of-the-art swimming pool for decades to come. 

Meanwhile, work is continuing at The Rock swimming pool, which is also located in Lockhart Shire.

Developments at The Rock include a new community area and gym. This facility will be opened on November 16. And the new swimming pool at The Rock will be ready for the 2019/20 summer. 

When the upgrades were announced in March this year Mr Schirmer said the facilities would be of benefit for the community as well as visitors.

At the time he said the pools were important in terms of providing a platform for swimming lessons and a location for the Lockhart Swimming Club members to train. 

The need for upgrades was initially identified through the shire’s Community Strategic Plan.
