Dr Mackey, who has been in Lockhart for 25 years, was recognised for his outstanding contribution to rural health at the Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network’s annual primary healthcare awards.
Associate Professor Sue McAlpin, the MPHN board chair, said Dr Ken Mackey has dedicated much of his life to serving the local community in rural health.
“Throughout Ken’s 25 years on the Board of what is now MPHN, he has devoted much time, knowledge and guidance in improving healthcare in our rural communities,” Associate Professor McAlpin said.
“I’ve worked alongside Ken for the past 12 years on the respective boards, and Ken’s passion for clinical governance and perhaps his legacy for our region is his contribution to ensuring quality and safe healthcare for people living in our rural communities.”
MPHN CEO Melissa Neal said Dr Mackey’s service extends to the Lockhart community through leadership and advocacy for rural communities.
“Our small rural communities rely on their local GP for the provision of healthcare, and Ken’s commitment throughout his years of services to our various boards and his patients has led to improved healthcare across the region,” Ms Neal said.
