Featuring art, music, markets and more, the Spirit of the Land attracts thousands of visitors from across Australia each year.
Held on the second weekend in October, this year’s Spirit of the Land Festival will be on October 13-14.
The highlight of the Festival is the $10,000 National Farm Art Sculpture Award, held along the banks of Brookong Lagoon.
Old tools, car parts and disused farm equipment are just some of the discarded scrap metal used to create these sculptural masterpieces.
Other popular farm art awards include the Creative Cocky, Small Sculpture, Youth and Spirit of the Land Awards.
With a total prize pool of $20,000, there are also visual arts on display, with many high quality submissions in fine art, indigenous art and photography.
Award-winning sculpture and visual arts from previous years are also on display in the town.
This year’s Spirit of the Land Festival will be on October 13-14.
During the festival, the beautiful main street in Lockhart, with its famous heritage verandahs, hosts nearly 100 market stalls and shops are open all weekend.
Visitors can book on to the “Paddock to Plate” farm tours for a first-hand insight into food and farming, while garden lovers will enjoy the trail of town and old farm gardens.
Next to the sculpture display, the entertainment area at Brookong Lagoon offers a choice of foods, live music and plenty of shady seating. At dusk it’s the perfect place to sit and watch the spectacular fireworks display, with food and music adding to the evening ambience.
The refurbished Greens Gunyah Museum, which is expanding in size to include the new Talking Machines collection and historic farm machinery, will have new exhibitions on display, while the Lockhart Shire Walk of Fame, featuring famous faces such as Bill Peach and Ted Noffs, will be officially launched on Friday, October 12.
Due to demand, free overflow parking is provided for RVs and caravans, ensuring space for those travelling from afar.
Many visitors take advantage of the free parking, arriving earlier in the week to enjoy the atmosphere and explore the neighbouring regions.
The popular Lions train will be providing free transport around the town for everyone to enjoy, taking adults and children alike for a journey around the historic town.
Come along and enjoy a fabulous weekend designed for friends and family.
