It will be 23-year-old Hodge's first Test start in the No.13 jumper with the versatile back having filled nearly every other position in the Wallabies backline.
Veteran Tatafu Polota-Nau has earned an 83rd Test cap after returning home from club duty in England to start at hooker, while captain Michael Hooper (hamstring) and Dane Haylett-Petty (knee) are also back after overcoming injury.
The in-form Robertson will earn just his third starting appearance in the absence of Scott Sio, who has been ruled out due to a shoulder complaint.
Boom youngster Jack Maddocks is in line for his Test debut after earning a place on the bench for the Rugby Championship showdown at ANZ Stadium.
Maddocks joins reserve halfback Nick Phipps and Matt Toomua, who is also back from a two-year stint in the English Premiership, on the bench with Cheika opting for three backline "finishers" after using only two throughout the June series with Ireland.
