Emergency services attended the Olympic Way at Table Top just after 9am after reports of a two-vehicle crash.
Police have confirmed the driver of one of the vehicles died at the scene.
The driver of the other vehicle was trapped, before being released and treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics.
He was taken to Albury Hospital in a stable condition where it is expected he will also undergo mandatory testing.
Officers from Murray-River Police District attended and established a crime scene.
Crash Investigation Unit Officers were en route to the scene and will commence an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Diversions are in place and motorists are urged to avoid the area and monitor livetraffic.com.
The highway is expected to be closed for several hours.
