Riverina Police District Inspector Peter McLay said six persons were charged with PCA matters and eight arrested for positive oral-fluid samples, the results of which would be known at a later date.
He also said five persons were issued infringement notices for using mobile phones while driving.
“Several other persons were found to be in possession of prohibited drugs,” Inspector McLay said.
The crackdown on road safety conducted more than 400 breath tests and 20 drug-swipe tests on motorists across the Riverina.
“Of those 400, six persons gave positive indications to alcohol and issued court-attendance notices,” Inspector McLay said.
These included a 22-year-old male who was also arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning in Wagga, as well as a 24-year-old male arrested in Coolac.
A 62-year-old male was also arrested in Wagga.
All were issued court-attendance notices for mid-range PCA.
Inspector McLay said the results were concerning.
“Again, police are concerned by the number of impaired drivers who still insist on using our roads after drinking or taking illicit substances,” he said.
“These are people who shouldn’t be driving over the weekend who chose to get behind the wheel and caused danger to other road users.

“They’re the sorts of people we’re targeting to remove from the roads.”
Inspector McLay said the Riverina Police District would be conducting additional operations over the coming months.
