Boree Creek is also the place Erica Alchin, 18, calls home. She was born at Narrandera but has lived at Boree creek since she was six.
“The thing I love about Boree Creek is the sense of community,” she said. In more recent times Miss Alchin has made the journey south to study a Bachelor of Para-medicine in Albury. But her association with the eastern Riverina is strong and she shows gratitude for the experiences gained from the region.
“Everyone includes everyone … a lot of my family lives there so it definitely feels like home when I go there,” she said. “Going to Lockhart Central School gave me the opportunity to push myself to be better than what people expected from a small school,” she said.
“The community gave me the honour of the 2017 Senior Showgirl last year,” she said. In addition to her studies Miss Alchin has completed work experience in Lockhart where she gave her time to Woodhaven and Valmar support services.
And to build confidence she also took up an opportunity to do some public speaking and share her story as part of the Lockhart Youth Committee and Lockhart Shire Council.
Miss Alchin was also a regular face at the popular Lockhart IGA store. “Again the sense of community (there) is so vivid,” she said. She now works for the same employer at the Matthews’ East Albury IGA.”
