Police confirmed Amy Lee Smith, 33, died on Thursday night following the collision at Oaklands on Monday.
Her partner David Munro, who was driving the vehicle, remains in the Alfred Hospital.
Paul Munro said he was praying his brother survived.
“I just pray that he gets better,” he said.
“It’s devastating to lose one parent, we don’t want them to lose both parents.”
The injured man has a split kidney, seven broken ribs, punctured lungs, a split spleen and cuts and bruises.
He is still in intensive care.
Ms Smith and Mr Munro had been together since they were teenagers.
Their children, who have moved to Melbourne to live with their grandmother following the accident, are aged one to 16.
Paul Munro said the kids were “really struggling at the moment”.
“They’re absolutely heartbroken as you would imagine,” he said.
“They’re finding it very difficult to get by day by day.
“I don’t think it’s fully hit them quite yet.
“They’re quite devastated."
Mr Munro said Ms Smith was the type of person who would do anything for anyone.
“She was amazing,” he said.
“Absolutely awesome.”
Friends and family took to social media to pay tribute to her.
“So shattered,” Venessa Murphy said.
“I will cherish the time we spent together.”
Police continue to investigate the cause of the collision.
Mr Munro said his brother couldn’t remember much of what occurred after suffering a head injury and concussion.
“We’re absolutely amazed by the support that we’ve had,” Mr Munro said.
“It’s amazing all the people who have come out.
“I just want to support the nine kids.”
