There are plans to build parks at Culcairn and Jindera and the community have been invited to give their input on aspects ranging from location to design.
Greater Hume Council Mayor Heather Wilton said other towns within the area already had popular skate parks. She said the facilities at Holbrook and Henty were well supported and now with the availability of funding Jindera and Culcairn could join in too.
“This will add to the existing sporting and recreational facilities we have including fields, basketball courts and swimming pools,” Cr Wilton said. It is hoped the parks could be built within the next 12 months. “It (skate parks) has a community feel and I know it is something that visitors will use too when they pass through,” she said. “People might come out from Albury and Wagga and have a try … they like to have the variety.”
Council is seeking your input into the design of the new skate parks to be built at Culcairn and Jindera. Construction of the two skate parks will commence later this year.
Council received grant funding for each project of $179,429 under the Stronger Country Communities Fund Round One, with Council contributing the balance totalling $200,000 being spent at both locations. Council will release community engagement guides to Culcairn and Jindera communities. “I encourage feedback from everyone in the community and in particular from all young people who use skate park facilities frequently,” said Cr Wilton.
“It’s important Council continues to plan for the future and ensure we invest in recreational facilities that meet the needs and desires of our residents”.
Council is wanting an inclusive design so all users including those with a disability are encouraged to provide feedback to help determine the best design.
