It was part of a clever initiative called Sockit to MND.
The fundraiser really “stepped up” the awareness of motor neurone disease disease in the Riverina and came on the back of other successful activities.
On a cold and wet Saturday morning at Osborne it could be argued these bright blue socks united the footy players and netball players just as much as their club colours.
Age was no barrier either. From the youngest players through to the most accomplished there was plenty of unity in supporting the cause.
The Sockit to MND program wasn’t just isolated to the eastern Riverina it was embraced by Wagga sporting clubs too.
It seems the blue socks have broken through the barriers of traditional colours of all of the sporting teams and united the Riverina.

ALSO on the topic of MND. A group of Lockhart people made it onto national television.
The Footy Show hosted John Fox and his crew of and they handed over a check for $141,650.
The money was raised during the successful Pedalcure MND ride. It was a ride that exceeded all expectations in terms of fund raising but it also united members of the community in mate ship and camaraderie.
Aside from raising much needed funds these initiatives are getting people in the community to talk about MND, the plight of people who have it and also how to beat the condition.
Awareness has perhaps never been higher. It is certainly encouraging to see people wearing the beanies and bright blue socks during the colder winter days.

The eastern Riverina is known for its sporting success in many events. But now it is on the world stage for endurance riding too.
It was great to see such a successful outcome from The Rock Endurance ride which was held during the long weekend.
This internationally-affiliated event attracted competitors and a veterinarian from overseas.
And if the feedback from the event is to be a guide it was a highlight for many of the competitors.
There was a chance to take in the scenery around The Rock through to the perimeter of Milbrulong State Forest and beyond.
