A smoking Ceremony which goes back over 60,000 years was performed at the Henty football ground on Saturday by Teisha Maksymow from the Wiradjuri tribe and assisted by her sister Hope McGuiness, their brother Jarrah Maksymow plays for Henty Seniors.

The ceremony started with Teisha giving a “Welcome to the Country” speech, spoken in both Wiradjuri and English.
The Smoking Ceremony gives safe passage across the land through different tribes. It also cleanses bad spirits from both people and the land.
Leaves used are Gum, Wattle and Salt Bush, they are put in a tin bucket and heated until smoking, Teisha and Hope then walked by both teams
Individual goals kicked by Henty players were, Shannon Terlich kicked 4 goals, Damian Cupido kicked 3 goals, Taylor Clark, Jarrah Maksymow, Greg Schuller, Harry Nunn, Daniel Hore-Smith and Joel Price kicked 1 goal each.
Individual goals kicked by Murray Magpies were Ash Murray kicked 6 goals, Michael Sims, Jarman Teesdale, Daniel Maher and Brad Thompson kicked 1 goal each.
