The tower is one of the landmarks in the township. It is hard to miss.
So in a clever twist the shire and community groups have rallied together to paint the mural with a “water theme.”
The project is set to gain plenty of interest from both visitors and locals.
LOCKHART SHIRE STATEMENT:
The Lockhart Water Tower mural project, ‘Water Above All’ is moving closer to completion following the selection of the preferred design.
A number of high quality artist concepts were received, with the design submission ‘Lockhart Cascades’ by professional Blue Mountain artists, Scott Nagy and Krimsone (Janne Birkner) unanimously chosen by the Lockhart Water Tower selection committee.
The panel, made up of members from Riverina Water County Council, Lockhart Shire Council, Eastern Riverina Arts and the Lockhart Progress Association, were impressed by the high quality of the design and believe it will draw an increased number of visitors to the town during the project and upon completion.
Scott and Krimsone are well known artists in the public mural sphere and have extensive experience on large scale projects. Their design ‘Lockhart Cascades’ met the brief of a waterfall surrounded by native fauna and flora and was most representative of the local landscape and surrounds.
Mayor Rodger Schirmer commend the initiative. It is anticipated that work on the mural will commence in late August or early September and a development application for the mural project has been lodged with Council. The design and application may be inspected at the Lockhart Shire Council.
