“The ball is very much in council’s court,” Mr McCormack said. “The money is still there, it was earmarked for Dunns Road. I never said it should close, but (the road) is in urgent need of an upgrade.”
Uranquinty Progress Association formally joined the fight to keep Dunns Road open this week with a 1500-signature petition that will be presented at next week’s council meeting. The group believes the road is a vital shortcut for people living south of Wagga.
Mr McCormack said he still wanted to see the road – which had seen several crashes over the years – upgraded, but also urged motorists to either avoid the road or use extra caution in the meantime.
More than 80 per cent of respondents to a Daily Advertiser poll wanted the road upgraded. About 10 per cent each voted for leaving the road as-is or closing the road.
